Question Fourier Transformation plugin for Macintosh for photo restoration?

I have seen in previous posts on this site on how a Fourier Transformation plugin for Photoshop (PC only) can be used to reduce the intrusive pattern created by heavily embossed photo paper when it is scanned. (Search for 'fourier' or FFT on this site)

I have some photos I want to restore that have been printed on paper with heavy 'honeycomb' embossing. The technique described on the above posts look very promising. I have tried other techniques such as doing two scans at 180 degree angles and merging them, bluring and standard noise reduction software with limited success.

I have searched the web, but I can't find a suitable fourier transformation plugin for the Mac that would allow me to experiment with this technique.

I would appreciate it if someone would tell me if a suitable plugin (or for that matter a freestanding application) is available for the Macintosh OS X, please.

Zeuster, welcome to RetouchPRO!
I have not found one for MAC OS but one probably exists. I would recommend that you post this question in the Adobe's Photoshop Forum for Mac users.

Zeuster.

I found this a couple weeks ago, but haven't had time to play with it. What little I did get a chance to look at is WAY over my head, but you might take a look.

Murray

Thanks for your welcome. I'll give your suggestion a try, to see if I can find a more user friendly solution than the software Swampy has found.

Swampy

Thanks for the tip.

It does look like it might do what I want, but it looks pretty scary(!). I will be giving it a try, but it looks like it is over my head too.

Skydog

There are a couple of site where you can get it. It is free of charge.
1)

http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~avc25/archive.htm

2)
A Dutch forensic website (can't find the URL right now, but if you need it let me know and I will dig it up.)

This there is plenty of stuff on this site about using it (search for FFT or fourier) but the following site also explains how to use it:

Re: Fourier Transformation plugin for Macintosh for photo restoration?

All
I contacted the author of the FFT plugin for Windows.

He has kindly offered the source code so that someone can build a Macintosh interface (he has absolutely no experience with Macs).

Do we have any Mac programmers out there who are both interested and capable (I meet the first criterion but certainly not the second)?.

Zeuster.... I'm like you, interested, but not a programmer. I'll be watching this thread.
