Consider "Intro to Painter" online training offerings at LVS Online (
http://lvsonline.com/) or Eclectic Academy (
http://www.eclecticacademy.com/). No Painter knowledge or "painting skills" required or expected. Intro classes focus on "the basics of Painter," not specific styles like oils, watercolor, etc.
Very good content that focuses on basic skills, tools, palettes, terminology, etc. The approach is organized and structured (vs. learning Painter "willy-nilly") plus, unlike books, one gets to interact with a "real live" and highly qualified instructor for Q/A at any time.
About $25-$30 U.S. total for a 6 week class = very, very reasonable compared to commercial DVDs, which tend to
teach a particular painting style and are usually better suited for people who know their way around Painter.
Once you get a handle on the fundamentals, terminology, palettes, tools, etc., then other learning sources make
a lot more sense.
I agree that the Jeremy Sutton books are very good as is the content at
Paint Outside the Frame forum, but not as sources for learning the basics of Painter by newbies.
