Content Aware Image Resizing

Does anyone know anything about Content Aware Image Resizing. Does this concept have practical application or is it just a techie toy to play with. Here's the url for a video explaining and demonstrating the concept.

I've never heard of this company but they seem to have a lot of Photoshop plug-ins.
