Change to 16bit when editing, will it help?

Hi all, I am wondering if it is a good practice to change the image to 16 bit before editing, in the hope of preserving as many colors as possible.

yes! you can test it: do the same corrections (go extreme!) on 8 bit image and on (the same but) converted to 16 bit. flatten then convert 16 bit back to 8 bit and look at the levels.

Then convert it to CMYK and print it on anything. It will look identical to 8 bit.

Looking at the levels is great for knowing the information is there, but what good does it do if you can't SEE it?

Otherwise you'll just eat up your memory and slow everything down.
