Re: Free Photo Editors and Free Painting Software

The new release defaults to a PS like interface so that means GIMPShop won in a way. I liked the old interface (my personal choice) so I had to edit the config file to give it back to me. Choice; that's what its all about.

i hadnt realized gimpshop only had one iteration. i'm somewhat surprised at that since it had such a huge reception when it came out.

i'm thinking of making an editor that is nothing but an interface with layers for running .8bf filters

That's a great idea, a headless plug-in host-! Call it "Plug-in house" or similar.

Layers, blend modes, filter capabilities. Hmmm; sounds like Photoshop (or GIMP). lol

Re: Free Photo Editors and Free Painting Software

hehe, well, the idea is a very baseline interface that can handle layers and blend modes and then nothing else but filters, .8bf filters and an unlimited capacity to add more. oh, and of course you could open images and save results.

you wouldnt need sharpens and blurs and all that. users would simply add those filters in. the whole thing would be highly customizable just because one person would add some filters, while others would add others. the base price could be fairly low, like around $50 and it's total worth would be what each user added in ohter filters. in other words, it would be a user-made editor. one wouldnt be tied to adobe or corel for updates and fixes and so on; you'd simply add and delete filters

I think due to the stripped-down nature of this idea, the need for user contributions and the open source competition that support plug-ins, filters and more, you're realistically looking at a offering it as a freebie.

I find it quite surprising that more people here are not using The Gimp. Having learned on it, I use it even though I now have PS. I find Gimp easier to use, and the new version is an easy download. Plug ins, scripts, and help can be found at Gimptalk if you are patient enough to wade through all the nonsense posted by teens with whatever agendas they have that day.

The price is right, so give it a try, it doesn't bite.

Craig, If ever you make any, it should be able to open a plugin dialog by drag and drop the 8bf from windows explorer (or present a dialog asking which effect to load in the case the 8bf contains multiple filters).

Basically this would allow to test out new plugs quickly without needing to install them.

I frequent GIMPtalk too. Very good resource for the GIMP. Also, I do have CS2, but I like GIMPs interface better too. lol
