Help!

I run windows XP. Last night I received an automatic push: "software distribution service 3.0." For some reason my connection to the network stops functioning all of sudden causing me to reboot. The system will not allow me to go back to an earlier reset point and I can't find the download to remove it. Any easy suggestions avoiding reinstalling XP?
- Also how do I turn off these automatic pushes from microsoft?

thanks

Re: Help!

If you go into add/remove programs you will see on the top there is a box you can check to show all updates. You can remove the latest update but more then likely the reason you can't connect to the internet is the update effected your firewall. The same thing happened this summer with Zone Alarm. Pain in the ass. Check your firewalls web site to see if they have a patch. Good luck.

Re: Help!

to disable the automatic updates go to "control panel", click on security center then click disable automatic updates. A word of waring before you do this. you need to go to the microsoft update site periodiclly to download and install critical patches.( at least once a month)

Re: Help!

thank you...what is weird is that I can use my browser (explorer) about four times before it craps out and then I have to reboot. If I don't figure this out by Monday, I'll call microsoft (wish me luck) to see their spin.

Re: Help!

Thought I'd give an update....
...after many many hours
...virus scans....
...hardware checks
...checking windows xp safemode
...deleting upgrades..
...turning off my firewall
...doing a full XP repair
...still having the issue
...checking modem and connection
...and finally uninstalling Zone alarm..which I come to find was conflicting with the recent micro-soft security upgrade.
Problem Resolved...again...I didn't have the problem until the upgrade push was installed.
