How to create this effect in illustrator?

Hello folks,

I know this is not a retouching question but more of an illustration vector art question. Can someone tell me or point me to the correct method in recreating this look in Adobe Illustrator. I will be compositing an image that will require both vector and raster image. Thanks.

Then there's some custom brushes going on (the grungy looking stripes through it all) just google grunge brush and that will be easy, just draw it on with a white color.

A lot of stuff you can just draw, copy and slightly alter.

I made a bunch of stuff like this about 3 years back, and that's the methods I used.
