IMPORTANT:
There are five actions in this action set. Each must be run as a separate step. You'll need to decide between a pair of actions which is most appropriate for your image (5"x7" or less, 8"x10" or larger).

Be sure to run the action named "Introduction" first. It has additional instructions.

Hi Danny
I just got back from a trip and loaded stipple engraving action.. I thought it looked interesting..this action does not work for me..When I loaded it, It would not run so I tried line by line to run it but it kept stopping..I noticed that it put about 5 lines in the button mode menu instead of 1..there was no title to it..the first line was "introduction"..I dont know what happened so I removed it from the file (I was using my spare actions file not the photoshop actions file so as not to mess up my menu like so many others complained about.) But it is still there when I load photoshop..

How can you remove one action from photoshop without removing all of the others..I never did this before..I see the reset option..Is that what you must do??

On a non related note, I remember you speaking one time about PS7.0 having the capability to use a programming language or something like that to write actions..Can you tell me the name of that aspect of action writing..

Hi Jerry:

Thanks for posting your question. 20-20 hindsight: I should have put more emphasis on the fact that there are 5 actions within this set (instead of the typical one), hence multiple entries in your action button mode menu. (I'll revise the verbiage in the post in a minute to clarify this.) Each action must be run separately.

RE: Removing actions from the PS environment
1. Actions palette menu: Button Mode (must be off). This will change the "look" of the actions palette.
2. Click the triangle next to the action set name to reveal the action(s) inside it (if not already revealed).
3. To remove an individual action from the actions palette, drag the action over the trashcan icon at the bottom of the actions palette. To remove an entire set of actions, click on the action set name and drag the action set over the trashcan icon.
4. Actions palette menu: Button Mode (set on) will put you back into button mode.

If you want to remove the actions from your computer completely, the .atn you downloaded and unzipped will have to be deleted separately -- just as you would delete any file: Navigate to it, and either click and drag the file to the Windows trashcan on the Desktop -or- right-click on the filename and choose DELETE from the menu.

RE: PS7 programming
This is referred to as "Scripting" in which Java or Visual Basic are used to program PS to do anything imaginable. This requires a download (separate functionality) from Adobe.com to get started.

I'm barely VB literate and have zero Java experience. Although this is an area I've personally not gotten into, many others have. There's a fair amount activity in this subject on the Windows / Photoshop forum at Adobe.com.

Now that I understand it, it works great..I was going to attach a pic of a mansion that I tryed it on, but when I resized it to fit here, the stippling disappeared..It looked really nice..You'll have to take my word for it..

Thanks for the cool action..I had actually found the steps for this on "that other site" ..It really is a nice technique..when I ran the action, I got an error message that said "layer C=multiply is not available". I kept going and found the end results to be acceptable..Then I started fooling around and turned all of the layers on..I REALLY thought that this was a nice result and wanted to show it to you..Thanks for all of your action effort..You must not sleep much..

Appreciate the error heads up. I got a report earlier from Dave Jaseck and made the fix. The updated download (is that some sort of oxymoron?) works end-to-end now on PS 5.5, 6 and 7. Heck, if MSFT can post fixes online, why can't I?! In any event glad you were able to work through my oversight.

This action works well on some pics; not so good on others. You have a way of coming up with good ones to start with which goes a long way toward getting pleasing results like you got. A definite 2-thumbs up.

Sleep? That's just an annoyance that takes me away from learning new stuff and having more fun!
