AVG link scanner

Just noticed AVG added a www link scanner to their list of free of charge products, with idea being that it checks every link before allowing the browser to download a page. Sounds like a handy utility. I myself had a misfortune couple of times to having to clean bits and pieces of malware from my OS after clicking of what looked a perfectly innocent link.

It's also included in the new AVG free 9 update.

Also, FireFox has a plug in WOT (web of trust).
It collect feedbacks from WOT participants to establish a web site reputation. If you happen to click a link to an "ill-famed" site, it gives a warning asking if you still want to proceed. Probably won't work with kids , thought

Re: AVG link scanner

I had to disable the link scanner in version 9. Some pages took forever to load. Seems there are a few others having this problem. I'm on dial-up so it doesn't work very well with a slow connection.
