Re: Cs5

skydog - The free Phototools download is the lite version, which has just a subset of the features that are in the Standard version, which is the freebie from Adobe. Can't help with your problem, though - I haven't used Photoshop since installing the Phototools.

Re: Cs5

I installed it yesterday. I was surprised how fast I was up and running compared to the Apple/CS4 last upgrade that took me some time to get on my feet.

Is the 'variations' function gone?
What file extension do I look for to restore my custom workspace file?

[edited to add - guess I can't :-( ]
Which is the best mixer brush tutorial?

variations and render lighting effects are still there - but they are available only when you choose 8bit image mode (via Image -> Mode).

Re: Cs5

If you download phototools...you access them by opening Photoshop and go to File>automate

It's different on a mac

[edited to add; DH said there wasn't any reason not to just switch to 32 bit mode, so I did and now render lighting filter/vairations work-also puppet warp is a gas :-) ]

I'm glad they did something different with the custom workspaces...I found the way it worked in CS4 to be a bit like juggling live puppies

I really like Deke McClelland best, but I've been watching Chris Orwig's training on Adobe Raw 6 and have learned a lot of things I didn't know. I hadn't tried some of the newer tools in ACR since I usually move the image to Photoshop, but now I see that I can accomplish a lot in ACR and might not need PShop for as many images. I also learned about options that I hadn't known about with tools that I always use - like holding down the ALT key (Option - MAC) while working the sliders on the Sharpness panel -- I'd never thought about trying any key presses, and it's helpful to see how each of the sliders work on an image.
