I doubt it according to Adobe requires SP3 http://www.adobe.com/products/photos...op/systemreqs/.

Curious, why would you not want to update to SP3?

Mantra, I never installed SP3 when I had XP because some computer experts were telling people to wait. I am now using Windows 7 and love it, but that may not be an option for you. Here are a couple of websites with tips on upgrading to SP3, saying that it can work well unless your computer already has other problems. Chris Pirillo's tip is to change problem .exe files to XP sp2 mode - which might help you out. I am not a computer tech, but it sounds like you know how to be careful when you try new things (imaging your computer before the upgrade), so it might be worth trying it again to see if you can adjust it to work with your machine.

Is it safe to upgrade now to sp3?

Re: cs5 can i install under xp sp2?

Mantra, now I understand why you have not updated. I was more fortunate when I updated to SP3 no problems experienced - certainly no issue of decrease in graphics performance or lan issues. I did make sure that I updated all drivers to latest releases though.

Like CJ am now running Windows 7 64bit without any issues.

The links CJ provided are excellent (particularly the second one). I too believe that most problems experienced with SP3 are quite likely to be caused by other issues i.e. the computer had a problem that did not surface until SP3 installed.

Not much help I know, but without trying CS5 with only SP2 installed cannot say if it will work without issues. Also there could be an impact anyway going from CS3 to 5 again for me another unknown

Re: cs5 can i install under xp sp2?

Mantra,
I would agree with the others. I have several PC's running SP3 with no issues whatsoever since SP3 came out. However, I am very diligent in keeping them clean, updated, etc. They are also fairly standard Dell platforms, which just makes it easier to ensure good performance. I generally don't upgrade to new OS's very quick, preferring early bugs get worked out before upgrading. However, it now sounds like Windows 7 is worth the upgrade.

So, if you already experienced issues at SP3, you may as well wait and migrate to 7.

Mantra:
Like you, I am sticking with XP SP2 until I make the leap to Windows 7. I tried SP3, but had nothing but problems. And SP3 installs a version of Internet Explorer which is intertwined with the OS -- it cannot be uninstalled. I don't like that.

I was one of Adobe's CS5 Prerelease testers and can tell you that the prerelease versions I downloaded installed on my XP SP2 with no problem. I assume the same will be true with the released version. (At least I hope so since I have ordered the commercial package of CS5 and am expecting its arrival any day now.)

Re: cs5 can i install under xp sp2?

..... yes, CS5 works perfectly fine under XP with SP2.

I run Windows XP SP2, and I upgraded to CS5 a couple days after it was released; it runs superbly better than CS4 ever did.
