ReprintMaster - FREE minor region removal tool
Last year I had to prepare a lot of reprints (i.e. scanning and cleaning some old books). And I was constantly looking for a tool to remove 1-2 pixel objects. Well, I didn't found one, so had to create it myself )
I decided to release this for free, so enjoy:
This is mac version for 32bit Photoshop, should be working on CS2-5, I suppose.
Win version is coming soon.
Quick description: plugin works on grayscale images, but internally it treats them as lineart, according to threshold you choose. It segments the image into separate objects, and then counts their size in pixels. Next, the objects that fall below the size you chose are removed.
'Black rough' & 'White rough' options allow to choose connectivity. With rough selected, pixels are counted as connected only if they are adjacent horizontally or vertically. With this option disabled, diagonal connections are also considered. So, with rough option enabled you will have more objects removed.
There are 2 passes - 1st pass looks for black objects on white background, and 2nd pass is for white objects on black background.
If you disable 'Force lineart' option, the image won't be thresholded, but small objects will be filled with color, which is average of surrounding pixels color. Not a healing brush, of course, but can be useful in some special cases, as small black dots on uniform grayscale background.
here is one small picture to illustrate how it works:
on the left side you see original image, in the center - result of my plugin work, and on the right - PS dust&scratches filter, to compare with.
