Software Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Painter, etc., and all their various plugins. Of course, you can also discuss all other programs, as well.

Seamless Carving

for those seeing all the new stuff in cs5 but that dont have it and would like to try at least a small part of it out, here's a site and program. it's free. i have not tried it out so i dont know much about it other than what it says on the first site, here: http://www.sxc.hu/blog/post/981

you'll also have to scroll around through the various user posts to find the link to where the file currently resides, or, take this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?dfbnxu9dzjg

again, i dont know if this is even a stand-alone or a plugin, so maybe anyone that tries it out can report more about it here. it may be completely obsolete by now so do let us know. i do know it says windows only, but that was posted a while back so maybe there's a mac version by now. let us know that also if you find one.

Re: Seamless Carving

I know this app, it's standalone and mostly interesting IMO because it implements many standard resizing algorithms you can't find anywhere else but I think its seam carving implementation is very poor compared to other freebies as it doesn't allow for masking in order to either protect or forcefully remove portions of the image to be resized which is when seam carving actually becomes very interesting.

Arachne, IntuImage, Liquid Resize 0.67 and CAIR/SeamCarvingGUI are all much better IMO as they allow masking (No links sorry just had a quick lookup on my hard drive but they should be easy to google and there are yet a few other ones to find I would think).

Anyway I have seen the CS5 vids and I think none of the freebies have the advanced capabilities the CS5 implementation has.

Not 100% sure but I think there is a Gimp plugin implementation as well.
