Well, I wouldn't say, there's a clear best and worst version, but there are versions that I wanted more than others because of the new features ;-).
In my case this was CS3 as well (mainly because of the possibility of Smart Filters), CS4 didn't have very much to attract me (apart from things like the Rotate View, which I find to be a life saver) and CS5 has nice features, but I genuinely don't have much use for them in my personal workflow.
So, for me, best was CS3, "worst" was CS4.
But I'm just using Photoshop since CS3 (I had the trial of CS2 installed, but didn't play with it all that much), so I can't really compare those versions to CS2 and downwards.

I was using CS2 for a while, then i used CS3 but didn't like much until i used CS4 then i never looked back, now i have CS5 i don't know if i will like it more than CS4 but i will use more often and see, but until now CS4 is my favorite.

I have CS3 which works great, however I have a 64bit computer and cannot wait to utilize it with CS5!!

Cs4 now but I must admit that PS6 was a huge gap at the time for me...Not listed, too old :-)

I see you are using CS5 and probably often utilize it for photo editing purposes. Did you register for CS Review when you purchased CS5? I work with Adobe and was just wondering if you had set up an account yet (it's complimentary for the first 12 months)...would love to get your feedback if you have.
