PS 7 Question "What is this and how do I get rid of it?"

Ever since I got PS version 7 I have noticed these two little tiny boxes in the corner of every image I open. They just sit there. They don't print out and you can't grab them and move them and so far I have no idea how to turn them off. I checked PS 6 and it doesn't have these little annoying things. Anybody know what it is and why it's there? It looks to be a number and a picture as in 01 and some mountians. It never changes for each picture so I have no idea why it's there. Here's a screen shot.

It's a slice. Under view/show/slice deselect it. Whatever your shortcut command is for HIDE (COMMAND-H on Mac) gets rid of it too.

YUP that did it. That thing has been plaguing me since I got this version. Thank you so much. You are definately a Knight in shining armor even if it is black armor.
Well, that's one trick I won't soon forget.
