Photoshop CS6 New Features

The beta for Photoshop CS6 became OK for us to discuss a few minutes ago. I thought I'd start this thread for everyone to discuss their favorite new features and post links to helpful resources.

You can download the Photoshop CS6 beta here.

My own new favorite feature is the new GPU support. Many things that used to take forever are now virtually instant or real time (assuming you have a graphics card that supports it, which would be most cards from the past year or so).

Unrelated to this is simply the first "new features" video I've come across so far. Terry White discusses his own 6 favorite new features:

Re: Photoshop CS6 New Features

I just saw the interface and it reminds me of Live Picture. I'm curious to see if they restored the keyboard shortcuts for curves back to CS3 which were VERY well thought out btw.

Re: Photoshop CS6 New Features

Sadly no, the shortcuts are not like they were in CS3.
And you're right, with the darker interface it does look like Live Picture... That hadn't even occurred to me!

They have been implementing more OpenGL features, but it's always been really light on gpu requirements. I didn't expect them to go away from such a model given the enormous distribution of the program. Just wondering, where did you read this?

thanks Kav

about the Blur Gallery , i remember there is a thirty part plugin that can do the same job with a similar technology

now i don't remember the name of the pluin

the first thing i can think are Bokeh 2 and focalpoint 2 but they have different technology to isolate an object and blur the background

i'm wrong ,am i?
is there one similar to blur gallery?

thanks
cheers

ps would be cool a short review about the beta test made by a forum user

Re: Photoshop CS6 New Features

I watched all of the Lynda.com except for the 3D. This is what struck me;

Color look up - this is kinda cool, like Lightroom presets
Oil paint filter - looks a whole lot like Pixel Bender Oil setting...
Color range - has a new 'skin' color
Brushes - some brushes have a 'spatter' setting which is like scatter and size jitter combined

The best info I've found on the new video editing
. Based on the slow agony of editing HD video on my Mac with iMovie I suspect this is going to be a real resource hog. Listen how pleased he is that his fairly powerful machine plays back in real time...

There's a whole lot of bells and whistles added to content-like fill...like unwarping panoramas and such. I suspect like puppet-warp there will be a lot of creative ways to use this.

HTH - Nancy
