Photoshop: Problem with saving custom gradients

I am not able to save any custom gradients. What am I doing wrong? First I choose forground and background color, then I click at gradient tool where I see the gradient. Then I click on "new gradient" where I give it a name and save it. The gradient seems to be saved, but anytime I change the forground and background color the saved gradient adapts to it...

To really, really save brushes, gradients, etc., you must save them by going to Edit>Preset Manager>Gradients (etc.) and save them to the file of your choosing, preferably not in any of the Adobe Program Files. By doing this, you make sure that the gradient, etc. is actually saved and can be accessed at a later date.
