Technical descriptions of Photoshop tools

For a while I've been looking for a book or something on the technical workings of every tool and palette in Photoshop.

For example, in ACR the vibrance distorts saturation only in the shadows and highlights, while the saturation slider affects all levels equally.

I want a very precise, technical understanding Photoshop.

Re: Technical descriptions of Photoshop tools

Check out our Chris Cox videos (he wrote many of the tools). We also did one with Scott Valentine where he dissects all the various blend modes. Andrew Rodney has shows that go deep into several different areas (he uses Lightroom a lot, but the engine is the same as ACR).

They're all available here.

And has a skin tone protection from excessive saturation.

In fact, the best way to describe this behavior is to say less saturated colors get more saturation than more saturated colors. I don’t actually believe saturation is affected via the tone scale as you describe it.
