Distortion

Here is a screen capture of the distortion I spoke about in my last post. The files were different resolutions, and I made the images about the same size for comparison. One of them was viewed at print size, while the other was made to closely match, but *not* at viewing print size. My wife can not see a difference. Can you? I notice it mostly in the jaw/chin area, and the eyes. Or is it just me? To me, it looks like they could be sisters, but not the same person. Prints were the same on both files.

Do you have dithering or pixel doubling enabled in your preferences? They're designed to speed up display, but do introduce accuracy problems.

Dithering is not selected. I don't see anything on pixel doubling, and I don't see it in the help files. Are you able to see distortion?

I can definitely see a difference - the shape of the mouth is different and the chin looks longer. At least that's how it looks to me. I have no explanation for it, though I do know that photos "look" better at 25% & 50% than say 33% or 67%. Doubt that helps any, but I do see a difference in the two photos.

I do see a difference. The one seems softer and more graded than the other. That's why I suspected it was a display problem, not a file problem.

Thanks for the replies. Now that I've noticed it, I can be aware of the possibility. I might have had that all along, but just didn't notice it until this image. Strange!

Ed,
Try it out on other files and see if the same thing happens. I noticed when I used certain filters (the texture for instance) that viewed smaller than 100% the filter looks different but it also prints different also. I tried simulating the problem using various file types and sizes but could get the same results. When in doubt trash your preferences. At least they don't print funny.

Thanks Debbie. I should have thought to trash my preferences file, but it never crossed my mind. I'll give it a try. It can't hurt.
