Interior Architectural Modeling and Rendering

Created in Maya and rendered in Mental Ray.

Inspired by my friend's loft. I gave this scene a try. I modeled everything from scratch except for the plants and flowers, which were created with Maya's Paint Effect. I also textured everything and setup the overall lighting.

That's super stuff! Great work.

The learning curve on that program must be beyond belief.

Re: Interior Architectural Modeling and Rendering

Thanks. I still have a lot of work to do to get the realism down. You're right about the learning curve...it's very difficult. It's even more difficult to get a job with it. I spent 4 years in art school learning Maya and ended up retouching for a living. Not that I'm trying to discourage anyone from learning the program, I'm just stating what I had to go through. One benefit is certain about learning Maya is that all other programs seem much more manageable to pick up. Not that I have any desire to learn any new program at the moment without perfecting what I already know.

pixel monkey. i really like the rendition of glass, granite and reflection. have you played around with depth of field? i think the perspective (first pic) of the building outside is not correct. wish i have the patience to learn 3d

Re: Interior Architectural Modeling and Rendering

Hey Toan,

You sure have good eye. The building outside is just a 2D image mapped onto a plane...not real geometry. I had it right before, but when I changed the focal length and angle to fit all the stuff in the shot, it came out off. I'll get that taken care of when I have a chance. I've played around with DOF, but it just took way too long just to get a preview render. Doing it in post never seems to look right. Maybe I did something wrong with the setup and created unnecessary processing time. 3D can be a real pain. I'm still learning.
