3D in photoshop? I've got to create logo with the word anticlockwise as the starting point. I'm trying to make a glass orb with an arrow wrapped around it, obviously there's plenty of tutorials for the glass orb but I'm having trouble with the arrow side of things. I'm sure it's possible in photoshop, any advice or pointers? It seems whatever I do is flat and doesn't integrate or pop. Thanks S

Re: 3D in photoshop? Draw a straight line near the bottom of the layer and run Polar Coordinates filter. Add the pointed end afterwards. May need to size the wrapped arrow as needed. Of course a glass wrapped arrow takes a little more work.

Re: 3D in photoshop? thanks lkroll, I should have put up an example but was running short on time when I posted http://i46.tinypic.com/kefevp.jpg I liked the orange one but that's already had the thumbs down (and I'd have to buy the image to lose the water mark) the other two are drawn, I just can't seem to get anything I'm happy with (or looks half decent!)

Re: 3D in photoshop? Now I'm using GIMP, but, again, using Polar Coordinates filter will work. I used my ruby texture to start things off. I created a rectangular fill near the bottom of the image before running the Polar Coordinates filter. I then added some dimenion (could have tried rectangular, but was easier to do cylindrical and I'm lazy). I then used the Transformation filter (pretty much the same in PS) to adjust the perspective of the loop. I then added the arrow head. The trick is to start off as a horizontal rectangular fill. Pick the fill material of choice (in my case it was ruby).

Re: 3D in photoshop? Hey Lyle, I had a look after your last post and was getting somewhere close to what you were talking about, so thanks for that. I'm going to try pinch/punch to balloon it out a bit. What I originally had in mind was an arrow wrapped around the orb, kind of like the rings around saturn. I think I'm going to have to research some free 3d programs and dip my toe in the water Thanks for the help. S

Re: 3D in photoshop? Still on the hunt, found this, which is pretty much as I would have drawn it..... http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-ill...all-design.php Any ideas how it was created?

Re: 3D in photoshop? Just for fun. Got lazy and didn't concentrate too much of the sphere. A little sloppy erasing the appropriate places around the arrow too. Maybe someone here with experience might bump in (I'm just an amateur having fun).

| Re: 3D in photoshop? It was a simple matter to search the internet for 3-d type effects. As you know, it is the tutorial that works rather than the fact that it says type, since type is vector and shapes are vector. http://www.photoshopessentials.com/p...le-3d-type.php http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutoria...de/extrude.htm http://www.photoshoplady.com/photosh...ory/3d-effect/ and lastly, here is one that gives the chrome effect that can be tweaked for your arrow. http://www.spoono.com/photoshop/tuto...rial.php?id=21 I hope these links help. | Re: 3D in photoshop? Thanks for all the feedback, I ended up using vectors in photoshop but just traced that last example I posted, so I might as well just buy the original. I think the question's been answered though, it's possible to fake it but the perspective of the 'original' seems mathematically correct and without a guide I know mine would have been 'out'. I had a read through all those links janet so thanks for taking the time to collate them all. |
