My first Gyroid. David, creator of G'MIC, recently added a cool feature to his cool G'MIC plugin that renders Gyroid. I'm still a novice, so just used the defaults and then textured the result using GIMP. Click link below for bigger size results. http://www.flickr.com/photos/3452099...l-1316653@N22/

Re: My first Gyroid. lol; thank for the comments Doug. Finally figuring out a few more tricks with G'MIC's command line interface (still very much a novice though). G'MIC's definitely a must have. Don't need GIMP either since you can use command consol, and, it's high bit capable in this mode.

Re: My first Gyroid. OK; did these before I hit the sack last (well should say this morning; lol) night. Created this seamless Gyroid texture and then commenced to map (or distort) them to my will.

Re: My first Gyroid. Thanks Palms; it's all about using the filters. lol I use to really like math (guess that's why I became an Enginneer) despite my Meyers/Briggs (most Engineers are INTJs, but all four of my traits are opposite at the time I took the test (an Engineering management course that I attended my 4th year as an Engineer working for Schlumberger; I tested ESFP. lol)) saying that my personality traits don't support this (guess that's why I am no longer an EE after being one for 10 years; lol). I can't tell you how many hours I spent simulating math equations on my then CoCo in Highschool, then my calculator (believe it was HP's first hirez graphic calculator, the 28s) in collage. Why I have this fascination is anybody's guess, but it ended up being a gift since I did better then many in college.

Re: My first Gyroid. Why not a few more. lol I first created the circular Gyroid and then used Darla's Amazing Circle Script-fu to create the individual loop that I tiled and made interlocking. I then created the Sphere cage with that tile and placed the circular Gyroid inside. Click here for the caged version's Flickr. Last edited by lkroll; 09-10-2010 at 09:49 PM.
