Re: Topaz simplify beta

Steve, I think there are ways to do classic Windows emulation on PCs running Vista, but I don't get that deep into the Dark Side... ;-)

I suggested Adjust because it will help get wide tonal ranges under control in preparation for the application of Simplify. There are other ways of doing this (Photoshop's Shadow/Highlight), but Adjust also gives you the cool HDR and other creative effects so it's well worth having on hand.

BTW, Adjust is free if you buy DeNoise, or you can save $60 on Adjust by itself here.

Vivacity does unique effects in its own right, so you didn't go wrong with it.

Come to think of it, anybody with only Adjust, Vivacity and Simplify (and nothing else besides the host) in their toolkit can perform a very wide range of artistic and enhancement effects!

Re: Topaz simplify beta

Steve, I really like Adjust and simplicity. I tried Vivacity and it really didn't do much for me and couldn't justify the expense. I find we spend a lot of money on this passion, so comments, feedback, and especially critics are always welcomed.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

The main thing I do in Vivacity is to overapply the Sharpening option for the unique artistic effects. I've seen tutorials for doing cartoon-like work with the Clean option, so I need to try that next.

Lucis Art does similar things with images that Adjust does, so I haven't gone for it. I appreciate the further info and will think about it.

Thanks.

If you come across the cartoon tutorial I would be interested in having a look at the work flow there.

I have done some interesting things on forests and trees etc with Vivacity, so I like it especially for that. I have even used it on people, but there you have to tone it down with Buzz or something similar.

Thumbs up Re: Topaz simplify beta

Oooh, I just spent some time with Vivacity>Clean and I like it even better than the Sharpening option! The effects are similar but easier to achieve and control.

Here are a few examples where I used the same settings and applied them twice.

I have the cartoon tutorial saved as PDF on an external drive or DVD at home, so I'll get that to you in time.

LA and Adjust can be compared, of course, but each does effects the other doesn't. And then there's the price difference if you don't already have LA...

I'd really like to see that cartoon tutorial to PNP.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

Referring to the PDF I saved, it was over on the DPReview forum and the thread is called "Looking for an Effect" by Henry Cooksey (circa August). I'd give you an exact link but the forum is not loading for me right now...

simplify

there is a download link and page here

I thought it may get more attention here, i have downloaded it and had a quick play, looks like another winner ,

One thing i cant see if it is compatable for mac's so i presume not maybe some one will jump in with the info

here are a few quick try's
images from image after and a image from a old post which i used adjust then simplify on and the next one the other way round simplify then adjust

remember that simplifying looks good on its own but also works well as a base for ahb and pst etc

Please post your thoughts and any images as well ( settings would be a bonus)
the download link brought me to page not found.

Just checked. The link in message #47 is good. So is the download link on the page.

Let's see if others are having trouble.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

My bad. I was unclear in my previous message. The "See here" link DOES work for me -- its the download link ("Click here for direct download") on that page that doesn't work. It gives me the "Page not found" message.
Also, the page that "See here" takes me to gives serial numbers to use "until 5/13/09". Does that mean that the plug-in won't work after that date?

Re: Topaz simplify beta

The beta link works too. The serial is a temporary one for the beta, which (as all betas do) times out. Then the final commercial version is released and requires the purchase of a permanent serial.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

Thanks for the information about the date.

When I try to download the file using the given links, here's what happens:

- The "Click here for direct download" link on the page I'm taken to by clicking on the "See here" link points to http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazsimplify201_setup.zip.

- When I click on it, I get "The page cannot be found".

- If I manually enter into my browser's Address window http://www.topazlabs.com/src/, I am taken to the directory pointed to by the "Click here for direct download", but I don't see a file named "topazsimplify201_setup.zip" which the "Click here for direct download" calls for.

- I DO see a file named "topazsimplify203_setup.zip", and I can download it.

Is "topazsimplify203_setup.zip" a usable beta version, or should I keep trying to locate "topazsimplify201_setup.zip" ? Thanks.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

Ah ha, you're right! My browser was acting like it was going to download something, but then I got the error. So I need to update my link to reflect the current 203 version (and update the screenshot too; they dropped the black background). I'll catch that soon. You should be able to use 203 just fine.

I see after checking the link you provided that the latest link as offered by Topaz labs themselves elsewhere is outdated; you seem to have located the real link. I'll need to alert them to this.

Moot point now, because the final cross-platform release of Simplify 2 took place this evening! And yes Steve, it's a free upgrade for version 1 owners.

Re: Topaz simplify beta

Got the email this morning from Topaz Labs for the free upgrade to Simplify 2. The link for the download of the upgrade worked OK, however the link for the new Licence Key comes up as a broken link. Looks like Topaz Labs still have some problems on thier site.

Found the problem. The link for the new License Key says ...Simplify3. It should say Simplify2. Change the "3" to a "2" and it works. Looks like it was a typo.
