Anyhow, I think my French is just as bad. Virtual Painter plugins are available for purchase (easily located). They don't have much in the way of creative controls but what they do, they do quite nicely.

Cheers

Dave

The info here will help connect the dots on gouache:

To translate Daves French -- one of the effect options in the Virtual Painter plugin attempts to simulate this style. People have varying opinions on the degree to which it succeeds, but it definitely renders an arty result.

What is gouache?
Gouache is a painting medium similar to watercolor, but heavier and more opaque because a gum substance is added to the mixture of ground pigment and water. Gouaches, like watercolors, are usually on paper.
Who used this technique and when?
Starting in the middle of the 19th century and continuing to the middle of the 20th, most European & American artists painted in gouache at one time or another in their careers.
Why not just use watercolor?
Watercolor is more about light than is gouache. And, frankly, gouache is a lot easier to control than watercolor. It's a quick, direct medium and works well for a sketchy kind of painting.

Hi All,
Great work from everyone - Just a simple sketch from me. I've just treated myself to a Graphire4, this is my first effort with it. So I'm learning on all fronts now.

PSP

Little ink pots - sketcher and thredgeholder pro.

Regards to all,
Mitch.

This is not about the contest

This picture is just for fun. I'm trying a new (well to me anyway) chalking technique. Ali was a perfect subject to try it on.

Janet

P.S. I've just calibrated my monitor and would like anyone to pm me with comments about whether or not the color balance is off. Thanks.

This little girl has inspired a thread of very creative paintings! Janet, that's a neat effect; since I don't know what shade you were trying for, I can't tell if your monitor is right on or way off.
Here's mine. It ended up looking a little like chalk...............I think.
