Re: Creative Portraits: Autumn Girl

Thank you, Patricia, Cat and Jim. Patricia....I like playing with the Nik solarize filter as well....neat effect here.

Jim, here is what I did:

I smudged and duped the original and desaturated the duped layer. I used curves to bring out lightness in the face. After that, I duped the b/w layer and set the blend mode to screen to make it even lighter. I merged layer 2 and 3. At this time, I set the blend mode to hard light. This gave it the color you see and made a more stark contrast. I was left with one layer at this point. You will still have to remove the pale BG....

Now, I duped the layer. Turn off layer #2 and working on layer #1, I used the Flaming Pear India ink ...... where there are only small black dots. Turning on layer #2, I set the blend mode to multiply and flattened the layer.

Thank you for your comments....hope this helps.

Re: Creative Portraits: Autumn Girl

When looking at the original image I was not favorably impressed and thought it looked kind of silly. After looking through all the images there have been many that have brought something very beautiful out of this photo. I thought what good is this photograph how can you use it. In my opinion I think Craig in his #56 image post found the perfect use for this image and did a great job of executing that vision.

Here's my rich painting version.
Used Photoshop cutout filter, dry brush filter, and a paint brush texture.

Fox, I love the brush strokes in your painting. I've never been big on virtual frames as I think they detract from the art a bit. Lovely, anyway.
Hi, Cupcake, and welcome!
Your painting glows with life.

Going back to Beverly's question (didn't mean to ignore you!) about Impressionist presets, I'm afraid Danny is the resident expert on those, but there are some wonderful Impressionist threads here that you've probably discovered. Here's one of them.
http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/pho...=impressionist
From my own experience, sometimes it's necessary to go in and check on all the file numbers in your presets to make sure there are no conflicts or duplications. And occasionally, I've had to delete a preset and reinstall. Alcar's presets are good ones, so maybe they just need to be installed again. If this doesn't help, or you don't find your answer, PM me, and we'll talk it through.

Was going to put a speech bubble in this one but couldn't think of a caption.
