Creative Portraits: Carlos

Carlos and I worked together a few years ago. We had lunch together last week and he let me snap a few pics.

Be gentle on my friend!

Danny... a great shot. Carlos looks to be a fun guy. I like the character in his face!

Be gentle with me.. my first attempt at "painting" in PhotoShop. I don't get to do this kind of stuff very often, but I used a chalk history brush. Fun project!

He's definitely a character - head to toe, and indeed has broken the Fun Barrier many (perhaps 'too many') times.

Thanks for being first on this thread, Swampy, and of course I'll be gentle! Glad you had fun and got to try something new. For a first time, I'd say you whacked a home run!

Watch out: The more you do this type of thing, the more addicting it becomes.

Retinex Clarified b/w.

In a b/w mood today. Though if I clarified the image as a b/w, it would look good. Apologize for the jpeg jaggies since I saved it at 33% quality to keep within size budgets.

I smudged and added a background, removed some of the whiskers but not all.

Interesting face. I used the two impressionist styles djroil24 and oil smudge with a b&w layer above.

Used Painter to make a pencil sketch with pebble board paper texture. Added a light colored overlay to give it some warmth. Such a friendly face!

Everyone has such great interpretations of this very good subject. I enjoyed working on this.

Worked on the subject in PS using ink outlines, smudge tool and angled strokes.

Created background with a green/blue gradient. Added stained glass texture, smudged that and added angled strokes.

Used Painter Classic, Lighting Effects, to highlight face.

Hey, stranger. Nice to see your entry.

I like how you utilized this combination of tools/methods to get this painted look. Don't stay away so long next time.

Great work Palms. It just seems that your piece screams for a little noise.

Hi Danny!!!!

I know it's been quite a while since I've been on the photo art forums, but RetouchPRO has grown so much that I've spending more time in other areas.

There is just "something" about Carlos that inspired me to take a crack at this one.

Good to see you again.

I'm trying to learn studio artist and have finally gotten around to producing some stuff.

At any rate, here's my rendition.

Nice, Phil

I bought Studio Artist (Mac) when it first came out, but never upgraded it. Talk about a terrible interface, but you could achieve some wonderful results.

Filter fun.

Haven't played with Van Gogh as much as I would like. I did change the color setting to none (the other color was even too much for me). Some GIMP bumpmapping and am done.

PS: Sorry for the quality. Had to save at 17%.

Filter Fun

Lkroll...I've been wanting to compliment you on your Van Gogh styles for the Impressionist Plugin. They are absolutely terrific, and I am having a lot of fun with them. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Alan.

Always appreciative when I get positive feedback (trust me, I've gotten negative one's for this preset on other forums too).

lk,

i'd love to see that one with a bit more quality. resizing to a smaller size would help and require less compression.

This is more of a work-in-progress than a final painting.

In Deep Paint, been experimenting with the Clone Option inside the Wet Oil brushes.

Using a Brush canves which gives about 50% coverage, set Sink to 50% and paint alternately with the Paint Valley checked, and then unchecked.

You just keep getting better & better!
