Creative Portraits: A face with character

This older gentleman kindly gave me permission to use his picture on this forum. I think the face shows a lot of character even though there is considerable glare from his glasses.

He is a woodworker and makes wonderful wooden spoons and spatulas for Dutch oven cooks. I have a few of his pieces; and they are treasured additions to my kitchen.

Have fun artifying his picture.

Janet

Vector enhanced wc.

Thanks for the play Janet. I did some smudging (very little) too, but mainly I used Sharp Control, Autotrace (converted to bitmap in GIMP of course) and some Hue/Sat adjustments.

Palms, I don't think it is "messy" at all. I think it quite bold and refreshing. I like the way the lines and colors work together. It all fits.

Nice pic, Janet, and nice work by everybody so far.

I did pre-and-post work in CS2 (Crop & Draganizer action before, texture, d&b after), artifying in Artweaver.

Had to compress the livin' daylights outa the poor thing to get it under 100k.

Danny pull up a chair its a bit of a long story
On the nikoncafe forum there is a post about using the pOpArTISt action (mike finns) but going back in the history to get a certain effect. while looking at this i stumbled on doing this effect
which is
run the action
go to history and select the last one called pop and smudge/smear the hard lines
open new layer and use the history brush which brings the art layer through
by doing this on a new layer you can erase any lines that you dont want

and that is it basically of course you can vary opacity's do other effects etc
on this one i applied graphic pen (not sure which layer though now ) It is really easy again some photo's work better than others

ASCIIGen again Danny. I used the old version this time (just because I could), but I also have the .NET version (much higher quality interface).

If one has Windows 2000, does one have to download/install the .NET thing -- whatever it is?

Unfortunately, the new version requires .NET (and I believe .NET 2.0; I have both 1.1 and 2.0 installed; what a heck of alot of download that was).

Hi all, some nice stuff on here, I thought I'd try another smudge (I do enjoy these old gadgies) this one was the hardest I've done! I think it's because of the glasses and his hat. Anyway here it is........John

Glad someone keeps going back in the files and bringing these images back. Some are really worth another shot.

I usually use a combination on most everything I post. This is probably Buzz, Gertrudis, layering, blends, and saturation enhancement. I say probably since I usually just play with the image until I like what I end up with.

I also have a sketch PSP script which helps to bring out the lines in a face etc.

Don't always write down my steps, but I can seem to get pretty close on this one each time I try. Depends on the original image as you know.

Steve
