Creative Portraits: Marsha's Daughter

this is a photo of my daughter that i changed the background on and added an "artsy" type of reflection.

because it's not quite working as a realistic photo at this point, i'd love to see what can be done turning it into art.

i've attached my pencil/smudge version, which isn't that great, but i'm still trying and learning.

All of us are still learning... it never ends. Fortunately it's fun (most of the time)!

Lovely photo... Thanks for making it available for tinkering.

I tried an Impressionist effect (Charcoal > Default using different brush sizes on a couple layers) below a layer rendered by Find Edges set to Multiply. Added layer masks to all layers to allow selective application.

My monitor is starting to go whacko, so if this looks "too dark," let me know, OK?

danny, thanks for moving my daughter's photo to the correct place and including it in your "creative protraits" area.

i love your charcoal effect -- it's dark, but i don't think too dark (but my monitor's not the sharpest either) -- i think it looks great!

yeah, i'm back to the drawing board - lol -- trying a different version.

christine, i love the reflection - it came out very nice. i attempted to change the reflection, but mine was not as successful -- good job!

i have attached another version -- this time using only filters.

Here's a version done in PS. Did a high pass filter, then Nic Color Efex Monday Morning. Followed with a warming photofilter.

Looking at the versions so far I am wondering about the reflection In Xaran's version. I love the effect but it does not look alike a mirror image to me - or am I confused? Of course in PHoto Art artistic license is allowed. I've been staring at myself sideways in a mirror and now I'm depressed as well as confused.

First version is of a technique I have used on the forum before, but it seems to fit. Again this is a nicely lighted image to begin with..

The second one might pass for a reflection in an old faded, cracked mirror....maybe?

Much more paint/smudge then simulation.

Used Sharp Control, Retinex, and Xero's Supersmooth to help with the Aniso, but then a bunch of selective painting and smudgeing.

I think a bit more glow for contrast and a cooling filter go well on this photo. Damn have I just been influenced by daughter coming home and talking about a horror movie she saw tonight?

Steve, great job... it's very close to my daughter's coloring, and I really like the yellow background color.
