I don't know the right way to post an image with the thumbnail... my first image post here.
Hey, Mike...

Glad you jumped into the pool. Nice work on this one.

The trick to attaching images: Below the message text window is a button with a not-so-intuitive label, "Manage Attachments." Click it to bring up a browse/upload dialog.

Note: 100 KB max file size. Photoshop Save for Web/Optimize to File Size dialog works great for this function. (see attachment)

Re: Creative Portraits: Man in Hat

Let's try this again. I hope the thumbnail and link shows up.
Thanks Palms & Danny for the info.

Here is another try.
This is a mix of everything, but the kitchen sink.
Dragan action, Lucisart, blends of original, added texture, color adj. Adjusted levels and blurred background, desat. Matted and framed.

Re: Creative Portraits: Man in Hat

Here's another version. Primed in Photoshop, then in Painter using the liquid ink pens. Texturized in Painter.

Re: Creative Portraits: Man in Hat

I like all of these, but especially Trimoons.

I thought the man looks as if he has the blues, and painted him appropriately. The mixture was a combination of a gradient, noise, and EyeCandy swirl for the background, and Impressionist for the foreground.

Re: Creative Portraits: Man in Hat

some really amazing pieces here. lqqker, love the background and excellent shadowing. (i'll probably comment on some others after a while).

i'm adding one also. this is a variation of a technique i've been playing with for a while now. the basic steps are dupe the bg; blur the dupe; set the dupe to darken. and that's it.

however, i varied this a bit this time. i first painted out the bg. i then did a little dodge and burn here and there. not much, i wasnt really going for a dragan.

i then duped that layer and set to difference, instead of darken and added an adjustment layer of brightness/contrast set very high on both settings.

i copy merged all that and ran Fast Fix on that layer to desaturate and contrast even more.

save to pspimage to save the layers, merged all layers and saved as a .jpg.

done

Re: Creative Portraits: Man in Hat

Craig,

Like your "dark side" portrait.
I took a liberty to play with it a bit - inverted, desaturated, made a scketch.

Another "man in hat", impressionist (I hope).

Just playing around. This was a perfect picture for trying out something I had seen somewhere else. Modified by me of course.
