Creative Portraits: Ali at Dankoff's

Eleven, almost 12, going on 25. It's killing me slowly...

Parent rant: She can text message so fast I cannot believe it. What I don't get is why not "make a call" and get it over with in 2-minutes vs. 20 back/forth TMs over the course of an hour? Am I just an ol' fuddy-duddy? (DON'T answer that!)

Anyway, I liked this one... Nikon D300, 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 in case anyone cares.

Have fun being creative with my angel (usually).

She will always be Daddy's Girl Danny (just don't forget your bat; lol). Did a Blacklight Chalk this time. Hope it works.

Bet she can out maneuver you on the computer too...8-)

Anyway me thinks you are too close to the subject to appreciate, (or tolerate), anything we do to this image, but if I don't have anything else I've got guts. So here goes.

Danny, she's beautiful! Got the shotgun behind the door? :-)

I went with a more traditional chalk portrait look. Hope you like it.

Re: Creative Portraits: Ali at Dankoff's

I think text-messaging is done because 1- It's a cool toy and 2- It's not a "conversation"; it's more just sending statements back and forth. The statement should be in a cool, hip, ironic, snarky, trendy or slangy form. Most phone calls require at least some substance or purpose.
Typing lol vs. actually responding to something funny.

Re: Creative Portraits: Ali at Dankoff's

Ikroll great chalking there but i think i would of liked the background all black ! and the second one is a cool illustration

great painting Steve which software did you use for it ?

Swampy a very delicate touch there, I keep saying i want to experiment with a chalk look but i just dont find the time !

Alcar gorgeous great crop looks very classy

Peter they are both great but the second one is excellent i am quite jealous

Secretagent that is a nice technique look forward to seeing some more

Ol baldy super again ( look at the second one bigger to get a better look at the texture) and again a great crop

Crazyfly interesting effect that i like it ! !

SkyDog- very interesting effect
Gilbert- great smudge, as always
Danny- She's a lovely little lady. My oldest is not even quite 6 yet, and I am dreading the whole text thing!

I'm a little late to the party, but here's my attempt.

Hey Ol Fuddy-Duddy,
It will get worse before it gets better. The next eight years will turn every hair on your head white, but enjoy it while you can.

Glad you like it but I have almost no merit as all I did was choose the position of the two sliders in the Flat Median plugin.

I love this filter, you can easily do instant "Vermeerizations" with it.

Of all that has been posted, those I prefer, apart from mine, are yours.

The photograph is exceptionally good IMO and I find that many of the stylizations have actually destroyed or diminished the feel the original picture was conveying.

My first try in the Portraits forum and I'm fairly new to the AHB too, so I hope this is acceptable.

Beautiful photo Danny.

Very acceptable, the main criteria is that you enjoy doing them, if we enjoy looking at them, its a bonus.
Lets see more

I had to have another try myself.

Thank you Swampy and Peter for your kind comments.

Peter, your image is superb!

This isn't exactly my first AHB painting but I haven't done many and I'm still getting to grips with it. It is fun though and I love the painterly effects it gives... as well as the challenge!

Thanks again!

Re: Creative Portraits: Ali at Dankoff's

Danny - nice photo of a lovely kid. I thought I'd painted this back when but on further review it turns out I only got as far as the retouching stage.

That situation remedied, here's my pretty-straightforward-nothing-fancy Painter pastels version.

Great photo. Now that one of mine is actually hitting 25 brings back memories.

Here is my shot at this. GMX photopaint watercolour, then CS some smudge.

Enjoy the next 13 years
