It has been a long time since I have done anything on here. This site has changed... They have added some really cool things!...........
I am having a brain blurp at the moment with Painter IX When I am painting from a photo, how do I bring back detail from the original image... like what brush do I use or button do I push to copy in detail from the original photo? Is it something to do with a toggle or something? It has been way too long

I would use the 'soft cloner' from the 'cloner' variants. I think it gives good control over how much you restore any detail

I thought that was it...but when I tried it ... it just smeared like all the other cloners???? Am I doing something wrong? Is there some settings I do not know about?

No settings to cause smearing that I'm aware of, only size-opacity & jitter

Did you make sure you have the File > File Source set to your original open file before trying to use the clone category?
