Cute Baby on Morguefile

i was looking to do a portrait shot tonight and went to morguefile ( http://www.morguefile.com/ ). i found this one of a cute little girl and thought i'd post it. here's the address to the original as well: http://www.morguefile.com/archive/?display=232181& . you can download a much larger zipped file from that page.

have fun and write the author, if you wish

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

Very cute pic, Craig. Thanks for getting this one going...

I painted over the background and applied the Impressionist and Akvis Sketch plugins and used a Photoshop action for the frame.

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

Wow; some jaw droppers for sure. Especially like RRamsey's and Gilbert's renditions, but that sketch you did Danny, is way up on the totempole too. Anyway, couldn't come close to these so did this one instead.

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

I like your fake smudge Joe; what technique do you use for it? Inspired me to do one too using Sharpen/GREYC method, but I did cheat a little (some real smudges around the face area). Also blended in some Impressionist.

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

Still playing with my Chuck Close interpretation technique. Got a little lazy in that I did rotate the image 45 degrees for the diamond look that he is know for (lazy this morning, but I did vote).

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

great sketch, danny

very cool, gilbert. i like your style

you really have a great touch with those, rramsey

very nice, OB. i like the tighter crop

i dont think i've seen that style before, lyle (the sketch one). a bit 'dirty' but definitely interesting.

i know you've said what the 'fake' is in the fake smudge before, joe. but, remind me again.

your second one there, lyle has some lines reminiscent of van gogh. very nice. interesting how the lines in the forground sharpen, but the lines in the background blur.

and the third one, lyle.... lego style?

very nice, steve. nice sharp, clean foreground against the blurred background. and very nice frame. did you make the frame or find it?

I have a program which makes frames and borders. I use this mostly, and also the built-in border and framer in PSP.

This was from the frame maker program.

another unusual one, lyle. can it be done with a touch more of her face showing up?

Re: Cute Baby on Morguefile

Anything's possible Craig, but I wanted it to look like a realistic starscape. Did more then a few today (binge) with some good/some OK/some not so good. Just experimenting for now.

Edit: I posted this one on Fred Miranda's site and thought the results were fantastic. I can't link the site now since I can't visit FM's site without going through a Proxy for whatever reason (best guess as someone put a filter on Charter; I eliminated every other cause), but below's how I created it.

".... I found a cool way to generate the star background itself using GIMP's Resynthesize filter and an actual starfield. Also, I used a planet Script-fu for the planet and moon and texturized it as I choosed. Galaxy was easy to create using a raindrop brush and the Whirl and Pinch filter with a Starburst for the center. Starburst for the sun too. Used GIMP's Sparkle filter for the few (didn't want to over do it) flashy stars."
