Stuck in tutorial. Problem selecting luminosity

Hi,

I am doing a tutorial for a fantastic pin up effect here

http://www.planetphotoshop.com/categ...torials/page/3

Regrettably I am stuck part way through.

The instruction is to select the luminosity (on a layer you have changed to overlay mode), and the instructions for this are "Option Command and tild key (the wavy line key)". These must be Mac instructions. I have tried various alternatives with Windows, pressing the tild key and shift/alt control, but nothing happens.

I really would like to be able to continue working this tutorial, and help would be much appreciated.

I attach a jpeg of where I have got so far. Image courtesy of sxc.

Canna it just so happens i watched the video on the comic book effect yesterday and the luminosity is loaded on that video as well

and for the pc he used Alt ctrl tild he then went on to explain how to load the luminosity using channels

so if you get stuck watch that video as well

Re: Stuck in tutorial. Problem selecting luminosi

palms1 - I did it the way you suggested, using channels palette>RGB channel - clicking simultaneously on control on the keyboard, and the thumbnail for the RGB channel. Voila, the luminousity was selected! Thank you!

This tutorial is making me begin to realise your amazing skills with the smudge tool :-)

Skydog - thank you for checking that out. Nice to know that you couldn't make it work either....

Re: Stuck in tutorial. Problem selecting luminosi

I wrote Corey and got this response:

Earlier in the tut I loaded the luminosity of the image as a selection by pressing Option-Command - ~. Then inverted that selection(Shift-Command-I) then pressed Command-J to copy that selected area to its own layer. Then with that same selection, create a new layer then fill it with white then change the blending to soft light.

With white set as my foreground color in the toolbar. I use the keyboard shortcut Option-Delete [PC:Alt-Backspace]

Just to clarify... You need the Shft key to get the Tilde Key..
Soooo.... Shft+Ctrl+Alt+~ gets a luminosity selection

Re: Stuck in tutorial. Problem selecting luminosi

All this is correct about selecting the luminosity mode unless you are using CS4, which is actually alt>control>2 instead of the tilde.
