I didn't desaturate in part 5 because I wanted to keep the colour.

Re: pencil sketch

NL Filter (high sharpen), Grain Extract, merged down and ran GREYCstoration on that layer. Set the result to Overlay a few times to get most of the effect. I then blended in some pencil sketches created using Impressionist filter (from the result) and also so Xero Artworks filter set to lighten for some cleaning.

Re: pencil sketch

Fun project!

I used the blue channel as a starting point. Did an Artistic>Color Pencil filter. Charcoal texture.

Re: pencil sketch

Thanks for the darling baby picture. She's adorable.
My sketch started with a high key levels adjustment. Then a PSP script, Sheri's sketch. Then I put some color back in lips and eyes and used Impressionist for some pencil effect. Last I put on the stroke borders.

Some very nice work there - I must get myself a tablet but I'd like to try one out first.

Re: pencil sketch

Hi, Geoff! Welcome to RetouchPro! Explore and Enjoy!

Some people take to a tablet like a duck to water. For others it takes some getting used to. Maybe you can find someone to loan you a tablet for a couple weeks, especially someone who has recently upgraded because most folks who have a tablet would be loath to give it up for any length of time. :-)

I've only known one person who ever gave up on their Wacom. But if you search around this community you'll find several threads dealing with "should I get a tablet".

Welcome Geoff...

I just noticed that Corel is selling Painter X for $50 (usually $399) if one also buys a Wacom tablet. If you don't yet have Painter and plan on getting a tablet, this is a great price.

Re: pencil sketch

Oh thanks! I saw some great Corel Painter Essentials work last week and was considering that as well... I'll check Corel online as a starting point.
