Great tip Joe. Here is another idea to try:

Duplicate the Texture Layer
Apply the High Pass filter at .3 to .6 (Maybe more depending on your picture)
Change blend mode to Overlay

some great tips there !

here's one i learnt from Swampy
new layer > fill with 50% grey > texturizer ( any one of your choice)
then use opacity and blendmodes to taste ( and colour if wanted)

here is a great canvas texture but it is a biggish file if i remember right

Elements 8 will take actions, but uses different ones from the full program. I have tried the conversion you are referring to, and it's a royal pain to use, (at least for me.)
