What a doll.

This is one of my impressionist actions--pastels over ink--basically several layers of impressionist blended at varying opacities, topped with some sketchy type layers and low opacity in different blend modes. I was really pleased by how this one brought out her eyes.

Something different from me. Two images. One gets buzzed, then over to PMAG -darkend a couple time and increased the contrast, then hand drawing. Then Buzz again. Grayscale it, increase contrast again.

Second image, buzz, then Impressionist Conte Crayon Fairthful with brush size set on 50. Merged on Darkest.

Cheryl:

The eyes came out GR-reat. When it comes to this arty stuff, if you get the eyes right, you have a lot more flexibility on the rest.

Amy:

That's a creative combination of effects. Glad to see you experiment with new ideas.

- - - - - - - -

I, too, took the impressionist route and went for a little less detail. I *DO* like Impressionist. You can sure get results from it that you can't get elsewhere!

When finished in Photoshop, I took a quick trip over to Corel Painter 8, to add some brushstrokes. Nothing major... just a subtle touch.

See attachments for the details.

I'm way, way out of my neighborhood! And I'm lost!! But I had to try something on this one. I duplicated the image, made a duplicate layer, USM at .6 pixels, amt. 26, and 0 threshold. Changed blend mode to overlay. I repeated this three more times, saved for web, optimized at 100K, and here's what I wound up with. It's not art, but it's a big change.

If you thought you were lost, I'd say you're "Found" now. You've created a interesting rendition here. Experimenting and trying new things are highly encouraged.

Get lost here again -- anytime!

A combination of Trimoon's watercolour effect and xero line art, plus a few experiments along the way.

Christine I LOVE that effect. One of these days I'm going to have to spend more time with Photoshop.

Lovely girl, lovely image.

Using PShop 7, combined layers of Artistic->Sponge painting, Stylize->Glowing Edges, Sketch->Graphic Pen with layer modes and layer masks to lighten effects on chosen areas.

CJ:

Isn't it amazing what you can do with Layer Masks and Blend Modes? The Layers Palette screenshot clearly illustrates "how you got here." Well done.

Thanks Amy,

I'm sure if you check out Trimoons tutorial you will find this technique is so easy - makes you feel guilty that you can create something so effective so easily.

I'm sure it could also be adapted to other programs like PSP and Painter.

I really like seeing all the different versions in this section. They are all excellent and so inspiring.

From an Impressionist plugin perspective, I can confirm it works with Photoshop, Painter, PSP, and Elements.

Okay I played in PhotoShop and Painter...

1. Retouched image in PhotoShop (levels, curves, blemish removal, whitening and removed the foreground flower). Also rebuilt the elbow to remove the foreground plant.

2. Opened in Painter and applied a painterly look with artist pastel chalk and grainy water

3. Opened back in PhotoShop and used a small brush to add hair. Applied a lighting effects filter to add a bit more sunshine glow and applied a slight warming filter.

cuty

Thisis my try, I did it in PS7. This is the combination of filter water color along with filter Plasti wrap.. some times I preffer Plastic wrap in a smooth way and apply necessary filters up on it. Then do play in levels in many times and in color balance also.

this is the result.

thanks

celestine: I'm delighted you found us and contributed this one. Based on the edges you crafted and the lighting effects it sure looks like you have been using Photoshop longer than you indicate. Keep on growing and learning. That's what it's all about here.

vijayan: Your combination of filters is very unique. I like it when an artist "takes chances" and tries something different. It is easy to do what other people have done. I admire those who are bold and experiment with new approaches. I find that inspiring.

- - - - - - - - - -

JustChecking: Worry not about lost detail. That happens sometimes. I'm happy that you keep trying new methods and continue to develop your skills. The layers palette screenshot is very helpful.

Thank you Danny,

This was an experiment. I often try with Plastic wrap and sometimes it support very much. In this one I wanted to create some patches as we do water colour in the paper and some tonal gradations.

I thank you for the encouragements and kind appreciations..

Cropped and straightened image.
Speckled to smooth facial area.
Used Virtual painter for some of the color.
Applied impressionist fine brush hairs for texture.
Used several Nik filters (midnight, sunshine, gold reflector).
Painted in some highlights and shadows.
Several different brushes to create torn effect.
Ran layer styles for border.

I should be working but I love this place to just relax and let my creativity flow without having to worry about cost and value.

1) Luminosity Mask & invert
2) Ctrl+J new layer
3) blended with difference
4) masked and painted in face, parts of hair and hand
5) ran noise reduction filter to smooth
6) painted in original fruit
7) Extensis frame

I got the idea to do this from this marvellous tutorial...

http://www.corel.com/painterix/train...atercolor.html

I did start to write a few things down but I'm afraid I became far too engrossed in trying to figure out so much and try and correct a lot of mistakes.

Certainly I did a sketch on one layer. Did a colour set of the original photo and used those colours to paint with on various layers. It wasn't until the very end that I used a very small amount of Soft Clone to bring back a little detail to her eyes. Didn't use any cloning on the hair - that was very experimental and I wasn't happy with it at all. Anyway...we have to start somewhere. Messed up with the bg too.

A lovely bonnie wee girl and thank you for the photo.

Thanks Danny! I didn't follow the tut to the letter of course but gleaned enough to make a start without the necessity of cloning (except a little for her eyes) from the original photo. I haven't tackled anything like this before and was pleasantly surprised by the result. Doing faces of course I find the most difficult.

Right now I'm concentrating on getting comfortable using tablet and pen, getting to know Painter's brushes and not concerning myself about variants, etc at present. All of that will come in time, it doesn't pay to rush into Painter I believe.

I was Hugely Motivated by Neve.... you have done a fine job.
Visited the site of the watercolor tutorial, huh Neve. Thats fantastic training, but pretty difficult!
So here I cheated a bit!! I used these 3 brushes, in painter 8 - tinting bristle brush, dull grainy chalk, and blender just add water.
In ps7, added frame.

Perfect complexion for this lil girl...

In photoshop i added smart blur then took it to painter, adding it to a watercolour cloner brush.
