No Pics

I think this may be something to do With Dougs updates, but is there anything I can do to change it?
When I click on a thumbnail, all I get is, well see the attached.
To see the pic properly I have to right click and open it in a new Window or Tab.
Not a mega problem I know, but a frustrating one.
Using Firefox 2.0.0.16 if that helps.

Re: No Pics

you're getting the new background but not the picture. not sure why that would happen. have you tried it with your popup blocker off? or maybe it's an active x setting? i dont really know. this is doug's baby. but, one thing you might try is i.e. yeah, i know that's blasphemy but try it just to see if it works any differently than firefox. if it does, then it might just be some sort of options setting.

another thought is that this new picture display thing might be conflicting with some similar built-in thing in firefox, but for that, i have no idea.

Re: No Pics

That is an old version of Firefox you are using, v 3.0.1 is the latest version. Unless you have a specific reason for using the older version, updating Firefox may help.

Re: No Pics

Craig have tried IE and it works there, but I don't really get on with IE, I've had bigger problems with that before, once bitten twice shy.

Littlecoo I've now installed Firefox 3 and no difference. Though I was up to date with all updates!!!

Palms the mouse thing is the only work around that seems to work.

I think it may be a Java thing, though I have it enabled,

Still a little confused??????

Thanks ALL

I have had to click away then click again also. Though not every time---it always works when I have to do it. (Using Firefox 3)

Re: No Pics

Peter, you're not alone... I've had trouble with viewing the enlargements every since the RTP update. Some pictures operate just fine and in the "old" way (click and get the bigger view with a white background). The rest are really screwy. I have my right mouse button set to open a link in a new tab in Firefox, but the java script ignores that. I have to manually Contril+Click for the contextual menu to open it in a new tab or new window and make either of those selections.

I'm on a Mac and Command+click should open a link in a new window, but I'm not able to do that.

Re: No Pics

Hi Peter,

The process in question, Lightbox, is javascript, not java. I've found it to be quite reliable. Try visiting the maker's website and activate the samples there. If they do not work there, then I'd suspect some sort of conflict with your Firefox setup, perhaps with pop-up blocker, an extension or other add-on. If they do work there, then it probably has something to do with Doug's implementation. At least that will narrow down the possibilities. Let us know...

Re: No Pics

I went to that site and the images respond as expected. No problem.

NAPP is using a similar Java routine now to display uploaded images and I have no problem over there. It's just here in RTP that clicking on the image does nothing.

The plot thickens.
Went there and same result as here.
Firefox setup was an automatic thing so???????

Re: No Pics

Try FF in safe mode. If that works, it's one of the FF plugins.
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

I hadn't thought of that one, but tried it and no difference.

Re: No Pics

There are some more troubleshooting steps here (plugins, resetting config files, image handling), Peter.

Re: No Pics

I don't have any additional plugins running with FF. I'm also on a Mac so .exe files aren't going to help me.

Lonk many thanks, the answer was there, but not straight forward I had to go into the Firefox config file (do this with care)

Quote:
  • If images such as google maps don't load (or won't zoom in and out): In Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey, go to your advanced JavaScript settings and make sure "Change Images" is enabled. This option was removed in Firefox 1.5 [3] so you'll need to type about:config in the address bar and check the list to verify that the related preference dom.disable_image_src_set is set to "false". If it isn't, context-click (right-click) the preference name and select "reset", or double-click to toggle.
Swampy and others may wish to check this out.

I checked, and my dom.disable_image_scr_set is already set to "false". :-(

Re: No Pics

Sorry, Swampy. I don't know the first thing about MACs or MAC Firefox. It's certainly curious that Lightbox works for you on other sites, but not RTP. Have you checked for anomalous exceptions in your Firefox options settings?

Do you have any other browsers (IE, Safari)? Does it work in those? Do you have or know of anyone with the same computer, OS and browser as you? Do they have the same problem? If not, I'd guess it is definitely some sort of configuration problem with the Firefox installation in your computer.

All I could suggest would be to completely uninstall Firefox, re-download it and reinstall it -- this rather than doing any sort of 'upgrade'. Good luck...

Re: No Pics

check that you have something like i.e.'s 'disable scripts' turned off or on, depending on what it says in your mac version. this might well be different than just the java scripts one.

check all your options/preferences/advanced settings on firefox and make sure you're allowing cookies for this site, anything that equates to activex being on, popup blockers and check the firefox site for the list of possible conflicting add-ons and plugins. i really dont know which this might be, but if you're ok on one site, but not this one, and if others have fixed their versions by changing configs and options, then i can pretty much guarantee it's going to be something like this.

Re: No Pics

I'm running with the default settings of FF. No add-ons. Cookies enabled. The thing that bemuses me is that the problem does not persist with _all_ images. Some will open, others will not. I have no idea how to pin that down.

Re: No Pics

Sporadic behavior is the toughest to troubleshoot. Is there anything consistent about this problem? Often these are caused by hardware rather than software. Do you use a mouse? Have you tried resetting it's plug or using a different one? You may have a faulty button switch. Just making wild guesses here...

oh, i hadnt understood that from before. ok, that changes what i said about it almost certainly being a preferences/options thing. and yes, i'd be more inclined to agree with lonk now. could be a mouse going bad, a slow internet connection to RP, or something else (just wish i knew that something else).

Re: No Pics

Okay, yesterday some worked, today they don't work.

1. Booted the computer this morning, ran FF, images did not work.
2. Quit FF and relaunched in safe mode made no changes, images work
3. Quit FF relaunch in regular mode, images work.

Re: No Pics

i'm going to guess, swampy, that on that 2nd attempt, after running in safe mode, that you were then calling up the cache of the image you had just looked at in safe mode. if that's not the case and you were looking at different images in safe mode and then not in safe mode, then that would be quite odd.

just as a test, try running in safe mode again, then flush your cache and run in regular mode on the same pics and see if it works.

and your test in safe then regular mode now makes me go back to some sort of preference/options setting. lol.

another test you could do is flush your cache before running in any mode. flush all the temps, cookies, and any other temp stuff and then run in regular mode and see what you get.

are you running any plugins with FF?
