Private Message limitations

This is just something I found out the hard way recently. My private message boxes met their memory limit (I never knew there was a limit) and when a new message came in it was mentioned in an e-mail notice but rejected. I deleted my message boxes but never got the message sent that time. It's not important since I know what the message was about and mentioned it to the sender. What I wanted to do is make others aware to clean up their past private messages ever so often so they don't get the same surprise I got.

Thanks for the useful information! I would never have figured that out.

This forum software can do impressive searches, email notifications, etc., but it is a bit like Photoshop - there is a learning curve involved. I was happy to see the "Preview Reply" option on posting since I wasn't sure how to use all the code buttons. I'm sure that I'll end up inserting some funny looking "thingy" that I didn't intend.

There's always that trusty edit button if all fails.

You're right about the learning curve. That's why I thought I would share this one.

Thanks for passing that on. I didn't know about it either. But I have been deleting my contents fairly often, so I didn't have the problem. Gotta go dump the trash!

You can either click on members at the top of the page and click on the members name in the lists or sometimes the names at the far right of the forum titles you will see names highlight when your cursor passes them.

After you click on the name their member profile will come up and in it you will see an area to either send e-mail if they made those known or send a private message.

Another way is to go to the bottom of the forum list and click on private messages. Then click on new message. It will ask you for a recipient and you can hit the browse button to sellect the person or type the name in.

Click on the link and you're good to go.

I myself didn't know about that limitation. Made me go clean my own inbox out.

sjm - you control your PM via the User CP. I notice you have PM turned off (otherwise there would be a little 'PM' button under your posts).

Hey, I never saw that little button. Guess there's more than one way to skin this cat.

So no where in the forum rules and features did it mention a private message limit? You may not have a limit because you're the administrator.

Can your private messages be any length or will it tell you it is over the character limit of 1000 and refuse to send it also?

Well at least the forum e-mails you to let you know you just missed a message.
