Are people visiting for a while, then leaving?
After looking through quite a few posts, it seems there were several people who came for a while, then quit coming (but maybe I'm wrong). If this *is* the case, I wonder if it would help to post new challenges more often. Of course, I don't know if this is even possible, given time demands and/or site demands. I know there are several challenges to choose from, but I've been waiting for the one that looks like I can get the most out of it, like the new #5 challenge, which I'll start working on in the next day or two. How do the rest of you feel about this? How 'bout you, Doug? Would this be too time consuming for you, if others wanted more? Once again, I want to express my gratitude for your efforts. It's a great site.

Hi Ed.....I think more will arrive to replace the ones that lose interest or are not as avid as some. I'm limited because I'm not that good and also I've a spinal problem that comes in fits and starts so when I'm 'up for it' then I'm 'up for it' LOL Limits the ammount of time I can sit without going into the boring details. Come on and show me how to sort that no 5!

Sorry to hear about your problem. Even though I'm retired, my free time is limited because of special responsibilities around the home. So I too, get to them when I can. But don't expect too much out of me for the challenge. I've tried to get my feet wet, but there's an awful lot of the "Why didn't that work" syndrome . The challenge looks like it will be many hours for me, but I think it will be fun. Thanks for submitting.

My pleasure....especially as it's my own Mother. It was lovely looking so closely into her eyes last night....they are the image of my grandaughters!
I'd love to see if anyone colourizes it as they have in previous challenges. Fingers crossed!

I think the key to getting repeat customers is an active forum area. I think the keys to an active forum include dedicated, knowledgeable moderators, not necessarily for editing purposes but to keep conversations moving and on track. Many sites depend on volunteers for this. I think the most important aspect is email notification that a thread you are participating in has a new post in it. I think this site offers that if you are registered but I've had a little trouble finding out how to register. Finally, even on several high volume forums I participate in, such as Nikonians.com, I have seen a decline in activity probably just due to the fact that it is summer and people are on the move....church attendance was horrible today.

I think you hit the nail on the head. One of the sites I have frequented is the Ryobi tools forum. I liked the way it was set up. To check it out for some possible ideas, take a look at

All forums suffer from the fact that people have many demands upon their time. I will continue to use a forum if I am learning and the community of people is helpful and supportive.
I was very active on the ZDU and SmartPlanet web sites for almost three years. I was often taking two to four courses at a time, but I was rarely able to complete them in full. This was a common problem with most of the students, but we continued to communicate in the related forums and through emails.
Since I am on the early stages of the PS learning curve, most of what I see so far is helpful to me. However, I would be a full time regular if I can post my work for others to critique and to have my technical questions answered. I would like to see a central location for this. Maybe it could be grouped with the challenges. I have not tried one yet, but I’m sure that even a poor attempt would trigger so excellent advice.
