Getting Started

I've seen a lot of people here who've worked on some really great projects and major magazines and with celebrities etc and I was just wondering how you all got started and how you landed such high profile contracts.
I'm just a hobbyist but I wouldnt even know where to start.

I have to agree - I'm a hobbyist, doing work for my family and touching up my own photographic exploits. At 35 I decided to return to college and get a degree in Photography and digital imaging, hoping the piece of paper might make it easier to break into the business. I'm also planning on taking Photoshop's ACE test next summer. Once this is all over, though, I have no idea what will come next, or how to begin making the change of careers. Thoughts and insight appreciated!

Don't know about the "working with celebrities", but there are a number of threads talking about how people got started in retouching/restoration.

Here's one old thread that includes links to others. You can look back to the older threads in this sub-forum (Work/Jobs) by adjusting the "display options" at the bottom of the page from "Last Day" to "from the beginning" after clicking on the sub-forum name http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12.

You can also do a forum search for related topics.
