| I assume from your post that you have not done any or not very much of this type of work. Can I also assume that you want to do this for money? If so then you need to practice and you could use some examples of your work to show any possible customers.
Visit a few of the antique type stores. Many of them around here will have old photographs of long dead, unknown people. The more damaged they are, the cheaper they are. The last one's I bought were something like $1.00 each.
Then scan them, do the retouching needed, make a print, now you have had the practice and you have a before and after example of your work to show!
