leaving one freelance job for another

i started a 3 month freelance job last monday, the pay isn't as much as i'd like and there is no overtime....there is a chance that i may have the opportunity for another freelance job that starts august 27 till lat nov., it pays more and there is 5 to 10 hours OT per week.....both of the jobs are through different staffing agencies......is it a bad idea for me to make such a move?

I think your word is your bond this happens sometimes make one deal and a better on comes along.I think if they were full time jobs it might be different,but since its short term it might not be wise to jump ship especially when working in a close knit industry,it might just come back to bite you in the butt

I wouldn't do it. You should never burn bridges. Somebody is counting on you and you stick with it.

i see your point Chris, but it's not as if there is a contract of any sort and as it turns out either the agency or the employer has stretched the truth...i was supposed to be covering a maternity leave but that doesn't seem to be the case, there was never a "regular" person to handle the imaging work...

that is a delicated situation.

I think you can only be clear to the first person that hired you. Tell him or her that the payment is not what you're aiming for, talk about the overtime and be honest about the other job.

I know it is sort of a partnership, but as you said, there is no contract. I think you two may solve this easily

I understand about being duped into the job. However if it is ever known that you skipped out word will get around whether you were duped or not, the employer is usually the one who will be believed. Which really bites.
I think Arthur has a good point though. Tell them that you thought this was a better situation as was presented to you but it is not living up to that. Mention if you want the other job. If they want you to stay they will match it usually. If not, you can feel free to leave.
