Exclamation New to RetouchPro

So not only am i looking for a job, but some advice.

I am young [21] but i have been working with photoshop since it was photoshop 6.0 in my commerical photography class. At that time i was a sophmore in high school. Then i moved to waterloo, iowa and went to Hawkeye Community College for Professional Photography. Now i am interning in Des Moines, iowa doing photo retouching 7 days a week.

I have always loved photo retouching. I am very good with detail. Color correction, contrast. and am good at doing special things that people need.

but i guess my problem is it is very difficult to find a job here in des moines. I would move. thats not a problem. Its just finding a place that i can work for. Right now i am making 30k. which for an internship is alot. but my boss rocks.

Does anyone have an tips.. or places i could go? I just really want to find a job.

I love this career. Its frustrating cause i am a hard worker, but i can't find a job. [some places are bunk or they want to pay me 8k.. and well i have bills to pay]

let me know what you think..

Re: New to RetouchPro

Sorry I don't have any brilliant ideas on a suitable location since I do this as a hobby, but perhaps the following will help in the decision making process...

Before you leave the Des Moines area in search of better/more opportunities if that's what it comes down to, be sure to have done research in what the cost of living will be in the new location. The net difference in things like house/appartment rent and auto insurance could easily offset an increase in salary.

Good luck with the job search.

Would it be useful to get yourself a portfolia together, both in print and on the web and then apply for jobs. Could you also perhaps start a small business on the side, to get yourself known. I have a friend who works at a computer suppliers during the day and repairs computers in the evening - not enough dollars in the second one to leave the first one.

Do you know 'which' business you would like to work for in the future ? Could you be doing some other courses to improve your chance of getting your dream job ? Where would you most like to live ?

I think those kinds of questions are the ones you should be asking yourself, once you come up with a definite plan of action, you can start working toward it.
