it's a computer desk job like any other, stare at a monitor for 50 hours a week and you'll have a general impression on what the day to day is like for a full-time staff retoucher. the most significant difference to me is the darkness. the lights are always off, the windows curtained so no light interferes with the monitors, effecting a complete loss of any sense of time

also, i've been surprised on more than one occasion, seeing co-workers outside the office and not recognizing them, cause i've never seen their faces in the light before. weird

I am, but after many many hard years of work. I own my business and have about 4 branch
offs of that business as well.

I think the reason i am doing well is that my clients know they can come to me, and tell me what they want and get it. You must and i say MUST, be able to match your editing skills with the photographers, or advertising firms idea, So that means learn as much as you can and try as much to learn to imitate different styles. Lean to adapt.
