how much would you ask for this job?

hi
I have to retouch 100 images for this nude book project for this really serious photographer. It's like a fine art book, A3 format. and i have no clue of what i can ask for this job. will i be counting per hour rates or a global rate ?

it's impossible to quote a job like this without actually seeing some of the images beforehand. just think: there'll be a lot of skin to work on and you need to know how it's shot.

As for rates, as has been said, can't say until you've seen the images. Have the images been exhibited/published already elsewhere?

Be very careful about quoting a whole rate for it, you've no idea how many amends there are going to be. If you have one person to keep happy, in this case the photographer then its likely to be less problematic, but if theres designers and Art Directors involved the whole could run into a lot of time, and you need to make sure your being paid for that time.

Figure the number of hours it would take you and any associated expeses - then you can give a quote for the job.

Re: how much would you ask for this job?

i've seen 2 sample images, the rest is to be shot during the weeks to come. there shouldn't be too much of retouching to do; just cleaning up, color correction, define an esthetic line. he doesn't want to much retouching anyways, so it will be no more than 2hours per file. (i hope) And i'm working directly with the photographer, i will be dealing with no one else. he's kinda famous, nationaly only. And the book is an order from an edition house.
so to sum up it will be like around 150hours of work. no beauty retouch involved. body shot, maybe a few portraits.

mmh i have to say, i just want to set a honest/correct price of a junior retoucher.
just enough to put a value on my work. see i just want to know the lowest rate to have an idea of what i can ask for. without offering the chinese/indian price.

Nobody can tell u what YOU're worth.

It all comes down to quality and how much u make per picture/hour. Give the client a final discount for quantity, ask for a credit, make sure the file doesn't come back to you 200 times making those 2 hours per pic 6 or 15... and that's about it! Have fun with it!

I think Godmother has made some good points
Also you might discuss whats there budget
and you have to know your own skill level
2nd ) If you want to get some good exposure and add some published work to your portfolio, money might be a secondary consideration, BUT it does not mean give your time away
