CGI in NYC

Hi,

New to this board. It's great! This is for the NYC retouchers.

What would be a good NYC CGI- retouching house? I'm on the CGI side and am finding it hard to work out who's who in NY.

Thanks

Re: CGI in NYC

Someone I used to work with went to a workshop here:

http://www.liquidcgi.com/

Can't say what it would be like to work with them, though. But it could be worth checking out.

Please, tell me where i can get a workshop about retouching and CGI in New York? i am planning to visit NY this year in October for about 2 or 3 weeks and i want to join one of those retouching workshops, and if i can find something about lighting it will be a plus or bonus.

Computer Generated Imagery

Not exactly Scott Kelby's market. I hope. If I ever had to sit through a semester of his bad jokes from the front of the classroom, my head would explode.

I used to have a "I suffer from CRS" bumper sticker...haha.

CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery. In short, it means not real and it's usually made in 3D. CGI is a term widely use by celebrities, television personnel, and even some movie directors to describe special effects in films that they really don't know what they're talking about. In recent years, it has become the standard term in the retouching world to describe retouching that deals with photographic imagery and 3D elements. In the 3D world, it's just CG. Some 3D artists actually get offended by the term CGI. Let's just say that if you were in an interview with Pixar and you're trying to impress your interviewers with your knowledge in the 3D industry by CGI this and CGI that, it's gonna cost you the job.

Here's what CG at its best.
