Question How many clients do you get per month/year?

Well... The title says it.

How many clients/jobs do you get per month/year in the retouching field?

I'm wondering because many people says each job should be charged as much as to pay the bills, but that will depend on the amount of incoming jobs per month and I don't want to underquote my job, nor going to high.

Economics 101: Supply and Demand.
Track your demand and price accordingly to your ability to supply.

Remember, selling more will not help if you are taking a loss per unit.
You might find it impossible to stay in business, if demand is too low for you.
Pricing is a very individual thing, that's why pricing is so vague when discussed here.

Only about 3. They're big clients so it's all good, but yeah not too many :P

I see... I've one good client who provides a third part of my living every month (the reminder is filled by temporal clients/jobs). You know, basic retouching of bulk of images per month. What about your job? I mean, just few people can make a living of beauty and fashion (taht's what I guess).

Main client is adidas, which is a massive ammount of work. I'd say about 8 months of work. Then there's Omega, which is fun but only about 1 month of work. The rest is filled with agency work and or freelance projects.

So you don't work 100% freelance?

This year the question should be: how many clients do you lose per month/year?

Re: How many clients do you get per month/year?

I'm full time employed at an ad agency. I have a retouch studio in the building, with 4 retouch stations, but I'm the only full time retoucher they currently employ. We fill the other spaces with freelancers if needed. Proofer and everything else you can need is in this room.

People come up with ideas, present them, shoot them and then bring them to me with a brief. I do the work and they give comments. Then we shoot it to client, and they give comments or approve the work. Then it goes to the studio (where I used to be) they put the images into mechanicals and it goes out to the world.

It's fun, loads of people around, good creative and you get to work with loads of different photographers on different projects. It's like freelancing, but you have to put on pants.
