Is it possible to get a part time retouching job?

Hi all,

I'm a freelance retoucher based in London, UK.

I would love to have a permanent job (and a regular income) and colleagues again,
but I also have some amazing clients I'm working for and I don't wanna lose them.

I had a look at various job sites to see if anyone needs a part time retoucher but I couldn't find any jobs.

Do you know if it's possible to work part time in a retouching studio or for a photographer and still keep on working for your own clients?
Part time as in 3 days a week (9am - 5pm) or 5 days a week (9am - 2 or 3pm)?
Is there need for part time people or doesn't it make sense?

It would be lovely to hear your opinion and maybe advice.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Nadine

As long as there's no conflict of interest, and your clients don't suffer, (because you're exhausted), why not? Nice work if you can get it. Especially if you can get it on the schedule YOU want.

I would hone in on Photographers in the main, they offer sustainable part time work, finding a photographer that needs you is the hard part, but honestly, saturation bombing them with Portfolio links, CV's and cover letters and a follow up phone call a week or so later can pay dividends. Oh and there's nothing like smarming ermm I mean networking, you are in London!

Things may vary between where I am (California, USA) compared to where you are. But the thing I have noticed is that there are actually relatively few businesses, or professionals for that matter, that do nothing but photo retouching 100% of the time.

I would dare to guess that the majority of us either have "other" unrelated jobs that pay for living expenses, or we freelance in other areas. Most of the pro photogs I have met do their own retouching, occasionally sending out work for special projects. I'm also a photographer, so I do my own retouching. I also write and do illustration and design as a freelance. If it involves creativity and a good client, I'll tackle the project.
