Re: Really hate the expression high end.

I've never understood it. What does "end" mean? end of the job? "ends justify the means"? Bell end? End of your career?

Re: Really hate the expression high end.

I am so sick of seeing it too. It's used way to much in my opinion, and most of the time it's undeserved. Why do people feel the need to qualify themselves anyway? The work should speak for itself...

Another pet peeve since were on the topic is when people say photo editor when they mean retoucher. An editor is a person that looks over a bunch of pictures and chooses the right ones for the layout/spread, not someone that makes edits with Photoshop.

Re: Really hate the expression high end.

[QUOTE=fraiseap;284246]To me, high end retouching is a useful term. A beauty shot that has received high end retouching should look almost like an untouched photograph, but without any skin imperfections and with wonderful lighting and expertly applied makeup. Only when you compare the untouched original with the final version is it clear that there has been retouching. This is a totally different thing from a shot which has been blurred and had a bit of noise or grain added.

I totally agree with this. High end means that high end techniques are used. The time and the effort required. Also, I have found it interesting to learn where the term originally came from - using high end machines for the work.

I think it has a lot to do with what is being retouched, if like has been said it is beauty, fashion then the term "high end" applies to the products and techniques.
