Retouch Testing... What to expect?

Hi Everyone...

I'm going in for a retouching test with a studio. I know that this is standard but was curious as to what to expect.

Would love to hear from other people about their experience and suggestions on what to do and what NOT to do.

Thanks... David

Hi david: This is not necessarily related to job interviews, but it has very nice advice in general. I'm sure you can pick a couple of things that'll help, specially the 2nd part.

Thanks, though those links aren't opening for me. I'm fine with the actual interviewing part. I'm more concern with what the testing might entail. From what I hear from the recruiter that's sending me, this studio gives one of the hardest test so I just want to be prepared.

Re: Retouch Testing... What to expect?

Expect to work on a file that is probably a little tricky, but one that's already been done by the lead retoucher so that he or she can compare with their own version. More than likely you'll be working on a Mac with a Wacom tablet, the standard setup.
They want to see how you work and what your skill level is, pretty much.

I would say take your time and be mindful of the details. Unless they tell you that you have to be done in a rather strict time limit, of course.

Re: Retouch Testing... What to expect?

Ask questions before starting the job. At what size will the image be reproduced? CMYK or RGB output. Flick between the 2 modes to see are there any major colour shifts. Make decent masks if required - someone else may have to use them! Be picky - they may be looking for more than just an acceptable commercial standard. Better to be slow and good rather than fast and slapdash. Good luck with it!
